The number 8 has long been regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture. With pronunciation of 'Ba' in Chinese, 8 sounds similar to the word 'Fa', which means to make a fortune. Hopefully good fortune will follow with the eighth video in the "Verse/Chorus" series!
This weeks video sees another cover track, although not one that has ever been included in the Stoney Broke set list. Inspiration was found in one of the most dominant pop performers of the last decade: Lady Gaga.
With a live show as eye catching, and memorable, as the outfits she has worn, Gaga (real name Stefani Germanotta) has produced some of the best modern pop songs in recent memory. With this video Stoney Broke takes the smash hit "Bad Romance" and strips it down to a gritty, blues inspired, track. Here's what he had to say about the song choice;
"The songwriting prowess of Lady Gaga in modern music cannot be ignored. Once you look past the flamboyant, synth laden, pop 'anthems' you can find a songwriting style transferable to many genres.
I've always liked "Bad Romance" as a pop track, and felt there was scope to adapt it, and try something else. This is the first attempt at re-working it, and I feel it suits the gritty, dirty, blues stomp"
The entire "Verse/Chorus" series can be viewed, and followed, from the Stoney Broke YouTube channel, so be sure to hit 'subscribe' and also the notification bell, so you don't miss a video! You can view the channel here.
