Sedgefield Rock + Blues Club 20/04/18

Temperatures were on the rise, inside and out, in Sedgefield on Friday night, as Sean Webster Band pulled into town for their headline set, supported by Stoney Broke.

At 7:45pm Stoney Broke was announced to a sold out Parish Hall, for his debut appearance at this popular venue. Having been active since early January, playing across the UK, the Stoney Broke set list played like a well oiled machine, blending old and new, and capturing the attention of the enthusiastic audience.

Established set opener "Intro" tee'd up sing-a-long favourite "Sticky Situation", flowing seamlessly into "Love Song" and "Too Late", before pausing to catch breath and share an introduction with the crowd.

"Back Yard" and "Castles" kept the tempo up, before we were introduced to a brand new track ("I only finished writing this yesterday, so if I start singing Bohemian Rhapsody, you'll know I've gone wrong") "The Curse". This slow building, loop pedal guitar solo, track drew a captivated silence from the crowd throughout, and one of the biggest cheers of the set. Lifting the mood, and tempo again, was "Got It" before a quick guitar swap for catchy slide number "I'll Be Gone". The audience were treated to EP ballad "Southern Cross to Glasgow Central" before (soon to be recorded) album title track "False Alarm".

A barnstorming finale of "She's My Angel", "Champagne, Lights and Whisky", and "Nothin' But The Truth" brought a superb set to a finish. But with just enough time, and crowd persuasion, Stoney Broke was called back to the mic for encore track "Stoney Broke".

In 2017 Sean Webster celebrated his 6th album release "Leave Your Heart At The Door" which has cemented his reputation as one of the top shelf acts in UK, and European, Blues. Reverting back to a four piece band set up, this double set performance showcased some of his best work to date.

Ably supported with drums, bass, and keyboard Sean performed tracks from his vast back catalogue including "Give Me The Truth", "Hands Of Time" alongside BB King's "Thrill Is Gone" and spine tingling version of "I'd Rather Go Blind".

"Leave Your Heart At The Door" is available to buy from the Sean Webster Band website, and is also available on Spotify.
